Indy, born in 2002, is an American Quarter Horse. He was found in the backyard of a house that was in foreclosure. We don’t know for sure how long he was living in these conditions, but Indy was abandoned with his friend, Chunk, and they were forced to eat garbage from a dumpster as a means for survival. Spirit’s Promise received a call in 2019 and immediately rescued Indy to his forever home, while his herd mate found a home elsewhere. After much rehabilitation, a balanced diet, and trusting relationships at Spirit’s Promise, Indy’s demeanor became calmer and he took a strong liking to humans. In hopes of providing him a sense of purpose at a young age, we adopted him out to a therapy riding barn where he was used for trail riding with special needs kids and other therapy programs. Indy returned to Spirit’s Promise shortly after, trail riding not being a good fit, but we discovered he had a newfound fear of gates. Although his anxiety is heightened at times, he is one of our most affectionate horses. His anxiety doesn’t stop him from flirting with all the mares, especially his love and stall mate, Heartbreaker. Sadly, Heartbreaker passed away this year, but Indy has found comfort with his friends, Joker and Diva.
